Mahindra and Mahindra Limited (M&M) is an Indian multi-national automobile company. Since starting the business with the assembly of the Willys Jeeps in 1947many models of cars have rolled out from their factory. The M&M is a specialist in utility vehicles. Their utility vehicles the Bolero, the Xylo, the Scorpio, the Thar, the Quanto and the latest XUV500 are very popular in the Indian market.

The Mahindra Bolero is the highest selling MUV in the Indian market. This vehicle has undergone face lifts in 2011 and 2014. Presently there are 14 versions of the Bolero, all in diesel. They are the DI non AC White and Silver, the EX non AC and AC, the Plus non AC and AC, the DI AC, the LX non AC, the LX 4WD non AC, the SLE BS3, the SLE, the  SLX, the SLX 2WD BS3, the ZLX BS4 and the Bolero Special Edition. The SLE, the SLX and the ZLX versions have been launched in 2011 and the Special Edition in March 2014.

Mahindra Bolero

This 8 seater MUV has Hawk eyed headlamps, a new sleek front grille, muscular bumpers, manually adjustable ORVMs, clear lens tail lamps and a side stepper on the exterior. The R15 wheels are in alloys for higher versions. The interior is spacious, but with minimum features. Only higher variants have AC, 1 DIN music system, leather seat covers, power steering and power windows. Only 500 pieces of the Special Edition will be made. This 7 seater priced at Rupees 7.84 lakhs has a mileage of 15.96 kmpl and has beige leather seats, wooden inserts on the dash board, a music system with CD player and Bluetooth connectivity. The other versions of the Bolero are priced from Rupees 6.11 to 7.78 lakhs.

The Bolero uses two types of engines, a 2523 cc, 63 bhp 16V DI turbo charged engine and a 2.5 litre M2 DiCR engine giving mileages of 13.6 kmpl and 15.96 kmpl respectively.  The maximum speed of the Bolero is 117 kmph only.

The earlier versions of the Bolero are 4107 mm long, 1660 mm wide, 1880 mm high and have a ground clearance of 183 mm. The LX 4WD model is 4440 mm long with a ground clearance of 195 mm. The suspension is rigid leaf spring type at the front and the rear for the older variants. The Special Edition has independent coil spring and anti roll bar type at the front and the elliptical leaf spring type at the rear. The brakes are disc type at the front and the drum type at the rear.

This best off-roading vehicle faces competition from the Tata Sumo and the Mahindra vehicles the Thar, the Quanto, the Scorpio and the Xylo.
